What Is Spamming?
Spamming is when people leave comments that are unrelated to the topic of a video, usually with the intention of promoting a product, service, or website. These comments often add no value to the conversation and can feel intrusive.
Is Promotion Always Bad?
Not necessarily.
Think about cold calling. Businesses contact people to introduce products or services, and the person receiving the call can either continue listening or end the conversation.
On YouTube, I see something similar as "cold commenting" — introducing yourself or your content in a respectful way while still contributing to the discussion.
A Better Approach to YouTube Promotion
Focus on the audience, not the creator
Instead of trying to get the attention of the video owner, engage with people already participating in the discussion.
Avoid posting direct links
Comments with links can sometimes get filtered or receive less visibility. A better approach is to encourage people to visit your profile or channel naturally.
Add value first
Reply to someone's comment with something relevant or helpful before mentioning what you do. Build genuine interaction instead of leading with promotion.
Make your channel ready
If people become curious and click your profile, make sure your channel looks complete. Have a clear description, useful content, and a way for people to learn more about your product or service.
Focus on recent activity
Use the comment sorting options to find newer discussions where people are actively engaging.
Consistency matters
Like networking or outreach, results often come from repeated meaningful interactions rather than a single comment.
